The A1(M) consists of six parts which are not joined together. For this reason, each section will be explained in separate articles.

- Hertfordshire Section (Junction 1 - Potters Bar to Junction 10 - Letchworth).
- Cambridgeshire Section (Junction 14 - Huntingdon to Junction 17 - Peterborough).
- South Yorkshire Section {Junction 34 - Bawtry to Junction 38 - Adwick le Street).
- West Yorkshire Section (Junction 44 - Garforth to Junction 45 - Tadcaster).
- North Yorkshire Section (Junction 46 - Walshford to Junction 49 - Ripon).
- County Durham Section (Junction 56 - Barton to Junction 65 - Washington).
